My life's a trip: bucket-list Thailand

It's hard to imagine that through most of its history, the country known as Thailand was called Siam until 1939 - just 80 years ago. Today it remains brimming with bucket-list-worthy experiences.  Traveling for work as a TV host for my show Travel Time with Linda, I get to experience many beautiful places, but Thailand is one I especially wish to experience over and over again. Bangkok explosion may derail the lifting of the State of Emergency but not tourism recovery

"As the situation seems to be widely normalised in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand, a bomb explosion last night in the city center reminds that the peace that prevails in the country might be only an illusion. The bomb exploded in a very symbolic area in front of Big C Department Store in Ratchadamri, opposite Central World Mall. The glitzy shopping center was partially destroyed by a fire last May following the Red Shirts occupation of the Ratchaprasong area.

"...The casualty is likely to jeopardize a quick lifting of the State of Emergency which was put in place during the Red Shirts demonstrations. "

  • I am in Bangkok now and all the unrest has been very localised - all over by now.
  • I am one retired lady who is not easily scared, but I have been dismayd by the news reports. The reports show that the violence has spread to parts of Bangkok that had been peaceful. If you are already in Thailand, make the best of it. But if you are not, why would you choose to go there now?
  • Says here that South Africa was safer for Brits last year than Spain, Germany, or (especially) Thailand. Your reaction?
