The other "land Down Under" is lots smaller than neighbor Australia yet packs in a boggling amount of beauty and adventure in its two main islands and various other smaller ones -- along with Maori culture and a touch of urban cosmopolitanism. And of course let's not forget Hobbiton!

4 exciting activities in Rotorua

Rotorua is known as the "little town" of New Zealand's North Island (though its population is nearly 60,000), and the country's "Sulphur City," world famous for the geothermal activity resulting the area's volcanic activity. • This is like discovering great seafood at a pastry shop: Went to Wild on Waiheke and tasted extraordinary pilsner beers brewed on the premises. Understand, Wild on Waiheke is a winery.
  • Another Kiwi special... possum socks....so comfortable... but you have to handwash them ...so i was only able to wear them once.....
  • Too bad, Tony; I've no time for fishing and no talent for golf. Some golfers who just joined us for the board of directors meeting played golf up the coast of the north island -- must resurrect the name of the resort and course -- and told me that it was more beautiful than Pebble Beach.
  • Remember to cast a fly for some feisty trout with the help of a local professional guide and hit the little white ball on a local club course. Kiwi flyfishing and golf are a must do....
  • never have - never will; gather you won't either!! My sons have and loved it and it is fun to watch
  • Ate lunch outside & watched madmen bungee-jump off Auckland's Sky Tower. Great entertainment, as long as I'm not the jumper. You've tried this?
  • Welcome to Arizona, Iris, premature though that may be. Thank you both for the weather warnings; duly noted!
  • yes, we are lucky...turning away several bookings but it was such a great opportunity, hopefully the summer will make up for it...thanks Donna, everyone says Sedona is beautiful, we have not been to that part of the USA - except Vegas and Grand Canyon :-)
  • Wow, you are lucky Iris to be able to get away during the busy tourist-season! We have to take our vacation during our winter, when we are not quite so busy. Say Hi to Sedona, love it there!!
  • Ed, you will survive through the stimulation of the beauty of the walk if nothing else!! Queen Charlotte is a long way from the South that Donna is talking about, however, there is a VERY cold icy blast sweeping through the south as we speak...edging its way north. Snowing and 8 degrees in Invercargill, Fiordland, Dunedin today, while we are bathing in 24c. here in Hawke's Bay Yesterday was 26; But as you probably know in NZ you can experience 4 seasons in on day!!

We are off to your country next Wed...for 5 weeks, very exciting, exploring the canyons in Arizona and Utah from a base in Sedona, a beautiful home in the desert! cameras clicking and sketch pads out. We might be seeing a little snow as well! but that will add to the beauty and wonderment.
