The other "land Down Under" is lots smaller than neighbor Australia yet packs in a boggling amount of beauty and adventure in its two main islands and various other smaller ones -- along with Maori culture and a touch of urban cosmopolitanism. And of course let's not forget Hobbiton!

Hawke's Bay, North Island cited in '7 Gorgeous Glamping Destinations'

How beautiful to imagine yourself in a camp locates in a glorious camp surrounded by beautiful environs. Singing and romancing on cold nights sitting around the fireside, staring on the stars in silent surroundings listening to the sounds of little creatures, basking on the lavish mattress, all that makes you dream to discover what camping in the glorious destinations of the world means. Morocco was the first place where I got the idea to experience the difference of international "glamping" -…

4 exciting activities in Rotorua

Rotorua is known as the "little town" of New Zealand's North Island (though its population is nearly 60,000), and the country's "Sulphur City," world famous for the geothermal activity resulting the area's volcanic activity. There are no live volcanoes around here, but plenty of hot water comes out from deep under the earth, manifesting as bubbling mud pools, geysers, and warm streams. • We've begun our tour of New Zealand - we'll be here almost two and a half months! Our first post is up, covering the Coast to Coast walkway in Auckland, with many more to come. If you're in NZ and keen to catch up for a drink, please drop us a line!
  • Any advice about doing the Queen Charlotte Track? Do we need an outfitter or is it easy to do on one's own?
  • We had a caravan in New Zealand 25 years ago and the country was very camper friendly. and far cleaner than sites in the U.S. Maybe NZ companies should stop renting caravans without toilet facilities if the freedom riders don't have doggie bags.
  • Too right!!
'Freedom Campers' (as they are called) are becoming a problem.
However, just maybethe problem lies in that New Zealand is not as Campervan-friendly...compared with the US and especially Australia. We did a 3 week campervan "expedition" from Alice Springs through to Darwin a few years ago and were SO impressed with the camping facilities and the dump-stations were readily available. Touring via campervan is becoming more popular in New Zealand, maybe time for us to add more facilities??

  • New Zealand Is Tired of this S--T

eTurboNews reports that "tourists who do not dispose of waste properly or poo in public spaces are a real problem, Tourism Minister and Prime Minister John Key says....

"Some councils have also raised issues about cyclists and tourists who hired vans without toilet facilities."

I'm surprised by this, because I get that sense that outdoorsy people have gotten to be pretty good about these things. Am I off base?
  • www.oneworldvn.com or www.indochinas.com for touring around Vietnam.
  • The Tripatini blog visits NZ's pop music scene, specifically Brother J's song Awhi I, which deals with the civil rights struggles of the Maori. Check it out!

  • New Zealand advertises no poisonous critters. Maybe the spider came with the territory, all the way from Canada.
