Hawaii makes chocolate - and it´s delicious!

Original Hawaiian Chocolate Factory      When you come to the Aloha State, go beyond the mai tais and and enjoy some divine, locally grown chocolate! The Hawaiian islands are home a number of chocolate-making companies, and most are bean-to-bar businesses. Hawaii is the only U.S. state which grows cacao, then processes and makes it into bars and other cocoa products. I've done my share of eating chocolates on the different islands, and I find the chocolate confections not overly sweet and…

Its cuisine is cited as one of "5 Reasons Why Colombia Is Among the World´s most Appealing Destinations"

Pierrick Lemaret,Colombia's location and varied environments - from coastal to mountain to rainforest to rolling plains - as well as ethnic heritage including pre-columbian, Spanish, and African, give the country's cuisine a flavourful depth indeed. That includes ingredients that might be unfamiliar to visitors, such as the fruits arazá, dragon fruit, lulo (aka naranjilla), passionfruit, and soursop, as well as fish like the freshwater bocachico and gamitama (related to the piranha). Some of the…

  • I'm surprised the iron wasn't scorched brown. Did the flour protect it?

Everyone else: It is hilarious, as Jose says. Sally, you asked an important question.
  • Or can George Egg make panini with the trouser press?
  • Hilarious! But can he make croissants with a hair dryer?

Seriously, what George Egg does in the video below is amazing, but personally, when I travel, I'd rather sample the local cuisine. Has anyone else on here tried serious cooking in their hotel room?
  • Thanks so much Laura, I will be in touch.

  • Hi Sally - we offer a number of cooking class vacations in Tuscany - each is geared to provide a different experience depending on your needs/desires and the number of people traveling. One is set just outside of Florence and is very hands-on and all inclusive. Another is set in the charming walled-town of Lucca - 3 hands-on classes with more free time - perfect for those who have been to Florence and want a convenient base from which to explore Tuscany. The third is set in the village of Panzano in Chianti - 3 hands-on classes and lots of free time - true Tuscany and a spot where you are likely to be one of the only non-locals in town. This location is better for those who like to drive and explore on their own. I am happy to send you detailed information on these options if you are interested. You can reach me on lhaltzel@culinaryquests.com. I look forward to hearing from you!
  • Loved George egg's cookery demo. i just would have used the hotel's free plastic shower cap to cover the rising dough.
  • Can anyone recommend a cookery school in Tuscany?
  • Just heard a great story on NPR today about how Brit comedian George Egg cooks his meals away from home using standard hotel room amenities: coffeemaker, iron, even, believe it or not, the Gideon Bible. I think you foodies will get a real kick out of the video. Bon appétit!
