How Princess Cruises is servIng up innovative dining

The exclusive dining experience on the Princess Discovery is unlike any other I have been a part of during my travels. "360: An Extraordinary Experience" is dining immersion making one feel like you’re sitting in the Greek countryside with olive trees or smelling the fragrance of lavender in the south of France. Thanks to Princess Cruises, I savored this time with fellow bloggers. I immediately became captivated with the experience when I heard beautiful music played by two violinists and…

Cruising is the main way to explore awesome Antarctica

Virtual-Piano Our planet's vast, remote, southernmost continent - larger than Europe - is a much-coveted "final frontier" for many travelers. And booking Antarctica vacation packages via cruise ship offers a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see frozen landscapes that can't be seen anywhere else along with a plethora of polar wildlife. With vacation packages typically ranging from one to three weeks, cruise ships departing from Argentina's Tierra del Fuego make the two-day crossing through the…

Some of what´s new on cruise ships in 2024

Carnival Cruise Line On their recent Carnival Cruise Lines vacation, every member of the Meyers family was busy enjoying their three-generation vacation getaway. Tom and Martha were playing their favorite sport of pickleball, which is a popular pastime among people in their advanced age group. Their son Ben and his wife Melissa were steering electric race cars along a winding two-level track (above and below), slowing to negotiate sharp hairpin turns. Meanwhile, grandchildren Tom and Betsy were…

A wintertime cruise above Norway's Arctic CIrcle

We spent two nights were spent aboard the MS Nordkapp., a 590-passenger ship that´s one of the nine currently operated by the Hurtigruten line, which plies the Norwegian coast daily. These are mostly passenger cruise ships, but also serve the vital function of transporting locals and cargo between 34 towns along the coast, some of which are otherwise fairly isolated. And they´re comfortable but hardly luxurious, without most of the bells and whistles common across the cruise industry these…

  • Marcy, welcome back. Loved your blog on here about Oasis...good job! And want to read more about the Poesia. Personally, I am rather tired of these super-sized ships so am looking forward to cruising on the Royal Clipper in January with our daughter and son-in-law, brother-in-law and wife and sister and her signficant other. Do you think I have that right? Anyway, there are eight of us going...and we are staying two days in Barbados in a condo before we go.
  • It really is NOT true that every cruise line has a laundry set up somewhere on the ship. Costa and Holland America, for example, do not. Laundry is a revenue item and what more and more ships are doing is to offer a one-day special laundry rate (just got off Costa Atlantica) for a bagful of laundry at a given rate on the second to last day of the itinerary. The Costa package deal was $24.95. The article also assumes every line offer the drinks rate. My suggestion? Check with the line directly or read any of the newer cruise guidebooks to find out if you ship allows you to do laundry. ALL is a really big word in this diverse business..
  • Hi MJ, Sorry about that! This should be the right link for 6 Tactics for Saving Money on a Cruise -- Not All of Them Are Obvious
  • Hi Jose,

I think you have the wrong link included. It goes to a list of three "deals" in the Caribbean in January. Would love to read the article you reference.
  • Interesting news in the Miami Herald re the first new cruise ship order in more than 20 months, deliverable to Carnival in 2012. It looks like we may not even notice the slowdown in the pipeline, since as the piece points out, Carnival's got 13 new ships slated for delivery between this January and spring of 2012.

  • I just read the post and I'm sure it was a WOW experience. The technology, engineering and craftsmanship seems to be evident throughout.
  • Don't miss this week's Tripatini blog dispatch from Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas, the world's biggest cruise ship!

  • On board MSC Poesia as she sails out of Port Everglades on the one-year old ship's first Caribbean cruise. Suzanne Somers is on board with a pack of followers and she looks bold and beautiful - like this ship. Poesia is an amazing ship with its European design and wonderful and soothing hues.
  • Costa just announced names of two new ships: Favolosa and Fascinosa. They'll join the fleet in 2011 and 2012. Why not just use the name Costa Flavia? I loved that old ship - one of my first Caribbean cruises.
  • Linda - You are right. That's why on www.smallshipcruises.com we do not rate, but describe each ship so that you can choose the one that isi best for you. Some people are looking for gourmet food and others would prefer to tromp through a rainforest. Gotta do your research and pick what is best for you.
