Litchfield's Ariston Café in 'Nostalgia Front & Center in Some U.S. Museums & Eateries'

Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame Louis Kaplan is channeling his childhood.  While a youngster, he collected baseball cards which he stored in boxes and treasured as souvenirs of the USA's favorite pastime.  Decades later, he’s reliving that time while visiting the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, upstate New York.  Opportunities to recapture memories from the past are of course not limited to baseball, nor to New York. From Coca-Cola to cars, movies to museums,…

Chicago's Pullman Porter Museum cited in '12 Top Destinations for African-Diaspora Travel'

Welcome to February! Since 1970, it's also been Black History Month in the USA, and since 1995 in Canada, as well (whereas it's observed in October in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the Netherlands). And though the reason for the African diaspora was tragic and horrific - the brutal, centuries-long trafficking of human slaves - it has also enriched many parts of the world, and indeed, world culture as a whole. So what better way to kick BHM off than with a look at a dozen of the most…

  • It's funny because everyone I know insists I moved to Chicago no matter how many times I tell them I'm no where near there! Champaign is very different because you have the mixture of people at the University from all over the world, the southern influence since we are so close to Kentucky, and the farmland just outside.
  • I can imagine, Marcia. Outside of Chicago, I think plenty of people underestimate all the great stuff there is to experience in this state.
