6 DAYS MOUNT ELGON CLIMBING

Mount Elgon Is the second highest in Kenya and one of the most spectacular in Africa worth climbing. It can be wet any time of the year but the best season [dry period] is between December and February. It is high and needs adequate preparations.

The highest point in Kenya is Koitoboss [4,187m] and we access it in 3 or 4 days depending on the route and physical fitness. We use the most convenient route that starts from Chorlim gate , a well-worn route that is the safest up the mountain peak . The highest peak is otherwise Wagagai on the far side of the crater in Uganda standing at 4,321m. Trekking gear can be rented at our offices in Nairobi.

Day 2:

Early breakfast and clearance with the park authority leaves us with time to begin climbing to the first trail hut or use of our own tent for accommodation. Lunch en route dinner and overnight at the first camp.

Day 3

Breakfast then climb to the second trail hut. Dinner and overnight at the camp. Side trips [excursion] is magnificent for the breath-catching views and acclimatization.

Day 4

After an early morning breakfast, continue hiking to the peak, Waggagai and descend to the third
trail hut. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 5

Continue descending on trail with lunch en route, dinner and overnight at the first hut.

Day 6

Continue descending the last bit of the mountain and be transfered to Jinja or Kampala where the tour ends.

NB: Climbing gear is not included in the tour price but can be rented in Kampala.
