Well firstly, here are a few short haul ideas if you’re thinking about escaping to somewhere warm this winter...
With seven islands to choose from, the Canary Islands are only around four hours away by plane and are at the centre of most winter sun destinations. There are some great deals to be had on the Canary Islands most popular isles; Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife and Fuerteventura, along with great winter temperatures of around 17C – 20C.
Again, only four hours away, holiday makers escaping to Madeira can enjoy winter sun temperatures of around 16C. As well as good beaches the island also boast world class golfing.
With a slightly longer flight time, the Cyprus beaches are beautiful and with temperatures often getting over 18C it’s a perfect winter sun get away destinations.
Egypt also has a five hour flight time; here five star hotels come as near standard so reveal in splendour whilst lying in sunshine of 20C. If you fancy a long haul get away then consider Sri Lanka, with a mix of beaches and history its winter temperatures are around 28C.
And if you fancy nightlife and beaches then jet off to Mexico, where having fun, as well as a sun tan, is what it’s all about in this tropical paradise with temperatures of around 28C. South Africa is an eleven hour flight and is at its hottest in January and February, when high winter sunshine temperatures of around 26C, can be enjoyed.
Or the luxurious Mauritius, a twelve hour flight, is blessed with the most beautiful white, tropical beaches and scorching temperatures of 28C – 30C along the coast.
Another twelve hour flight will take you off to the Dominican Republic, the most popular Caribbean island for families and couples due to its affordability and superb choice of all-inclusive resorts, plus of course its winter sun temperatures of around 26C.
For a last minute get away then check out Expedia.co.uk, Lastminute.com, Late-deals.onthebeach.co.uk and Travelrepublic.co.uk, all of which are definitely worth taking a look.
It’s also worth going into your local travel agent to see what deals they have. Sometimes amazing deals can be picked up if a previous passenger has had to cancel; you still get the same great holiday but at an incredibly low price as the tour operator simply wants to fill the space. This can sometimes be the cheapest way to get a last minute holiday.
And of course, don’t forget about those ‘holiday extras’ either...
Travel insurance – book this the moment you’ve book your trip so you are fully protected at once (how can any of us forget about all those cancelled flights due to the first bout of unexpected snow!).
Airport parking – even if you book your holiday days before you go book your airport parking straight away too, it will be cheaper this way than booking on the day or just simply turning up!
Happy holidays!
