In the wake of hurricanes Irma and Maria, the Caribbean Tourism Development Company classifies each island nation as either Open for Business or Road to Recovery. The first category is the big one; as Caribbean Hotel & Travel Association president Karolin Troubetzkoy reminded me at a mid-October travel industry meeting, "27 Caribbean countries are open for business," and that certainly includes the Turks & Caicos.
Damage to TCI's eight inhabited islands was minimal, and, of course, that eight includes Providenciales, where most of the hotels and villas are located. Water and power were restored to most of the islands, roads cleared, most shops and restaurants reopened quickly, and airports resumed operation in September.
Most hotels and villas are open, too, including these:
Coral Gardens
The Atrium
Caribbean Paradise Inn
Grace Bay Suites
Grace Bay Club
The Sands at Grace Bay (photo, above)
Seven Stars
The Shore Club
The Palms Regent Grand
Reef Residences
Gansevoort
Ocean Club West
Somerset
The Tuscany
The Venetian
Villa del Mar
Villa Renaissance
West Bay Club
Windsong.
Other hotels are either making mostly minor post-hurricane repairs or were closed for maintenance anyway during September and October.
Following are reopening dates for those few hotels still closed:
Blue Haven, Beach House, Royal West Indies, and Meridian Club (right), Nov. 1
Alexandra Resort, Nov. 15
Ocean Club, Nov. 20
Ports of Call, Nov. 25
Club Med, Nov. 30
Point Grace, TBD November
Sail Rock, TBD December

Way to go Ed
Thanks for the great job you are doing to get the message out
My best regards
Andrew
Couldn't agree with you more, Andrew. A horrific hurricane scene. Coincidentally, today is the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Sandy in the NYC area, where seventysomething % of the people whose homes were creamed were under-insured, and 22 % have still not been able to return to their homes. That's in the Northeast section of the U.S.; now just imagine what's going on in less prosperous islands that have been hit this year.
Way to cheers
Hope things will get back to normal quickly
Regards,
Andrew
