Manaus is the capital of the state of Amazonas and is situated near the confluence of the Rio Negro with the Amazon, the widest rivers in the world. It is the economic and cultural center of the North Region of Brazil.

Praia do Tupé (Tupé beach) is located close to the city, some 35 km away. It varies between 20 and 80 meters in width according to the water levels of the Negro river, which depend on seasonal rainfall.

The beach can be accessed from Manaus by boat and in barely an hour you will be sunning yourself on this unique beach. It is a long stretch of white sand which boasts the official stamp of “Sustainable development tourist site”, with controlled river access (the number of boats travelling to the Praia do Tupé on weekends and on holidays, when it is usually busier, is controlled) and various initiatives promoting ecotourism.

The fascinating contrast between the unblemished whiteness of the sand of the Negro river’s beaches and the dark color of its waters is the ultimate expression of the beauty of these surroundings, so different from the typical image of a Mediterranean or Caribbean beach from a visual point of view. The skyline is no different, as you can see the other bank perfectly. But the differences do not end there; the shape and size of the Amazon basin’s beaches are constantly changing as they follow the dance of the fluvial waters’ natural rhythm.

If you travel to Manaus or take a trip through the Amazon, a visit to this exotic beach is a must.

IBEROSTAR Hotels & Resorts has a 5-star, all-inclusive cruise-ship hotel in Manaus: the hotel IBEROSTAR Grand Amazon, stops off at different points of the Amazon rainforest to allow guests to take excursions on small boats to explore the dense, unspoiled vegetation.”
