Red Fort: This imposing fort is built in red sand stone in 3 kms perimeter with the height of the wall varying from 18 to30 meters. Initially the Red fort was built along Yamuna on one side anddeep moats on the other. At present Yamuna flows a kilometer away andthe moats have dried up. There is light and sound show organized in thebackdrop of this monument every evening, which narrates the history ofDelhi in context of the Red Fort.


Jama Masjid: Jama Masjid is one of the largest mosques in India built by Shah Jehan and complted in 1658. It has threegateways, four angle towers and two 40 Meter high minarets. You may goto the top of minarets to have a birds eye view of Delhi.


Chandni Chowk: It is one of the main markets of Delhi that consists spice market visited by international tourists.Chandni Chowk market is crowded and congested but very popular withshoppers. It is located opposite the Red Fort. It consists FatehpuriMosque that was built by the wives of Shah Jahan. There is SunheriMasjid from where Nadir Shah ordered his troops to plunder and massacreDelhi.


The Ghats: The ghats are located along the banks of Yamuna. Ghats are the memorials where the noted leaders and freedomfighters of India were cremated. The Raj Ghat is the memorial erected inthe memory of father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi. Raj Ghat is a simplesquare platform of black marble marks the spot where Mahatma Gandhi wascremated after his assassination in 1948. It is one of the most visitedGhats.


Rajpath & India Gate: Rajpath hosts the Republic Day Parade on 26 January every year. A huge road separates the twosecretariat buildings and Rashtrapati Bhawan on the Raisina hills. IndiaGate is located towards the eastern end of Rajpath. India gate waserected in the memory of World War II martyrs of India who supported theBritish army. The names of these martyrs are inscribed on the building.


The Parliament House: The Parliament house is the supreme law making body in the country where representatives from everynook and corner of India are gathered. It is the center of power whererepresentatives decide the fate of democracy. Visitors are only allowedinside the house to watch the proceedings when the house is in session.Foreign visitors are only permitted with prior permission from theirrespective embassy with introductory letter.


National Museum: It is located on Janpath and it is one of the treasure houses of India’s glorious past. The museum has alarge collection of excavated items, which date back to 2nd and 3rdcentury B.C. The museum has separate section for the Harrapa (Indusvalley civilization) collection and jewellery collection apart from theregular sections. A daily film show is organized in the auditorium ofthe museum. It is closed on Mondays.


Humayun’s Tomb: Haji Begum, the wife of Humayun, built this tomb in 16th century. This red sand stone tomb is consideredto be the predecessor of Taj Mahal. It is one of the best examples ofMughal Architecture. The entry to this historic complex is free onFridays.


Old Fort: It is believed that the legendry Pandavas had built their capital, Indraprastha at the place where the old fortstands at present. This fort is in ruins at present. The old fort wasthe seat for administration for several emperors. The legendaryPrithviraj Chauhan ruled from here till Abdali defeated him in thebattle of Panipat. The Department of Delhi Tourism holds a light andsound show at old fort regularly.


Safdarjung Tomb: The Safdarjang tomb is besides the of Safdarjang airport. The Nawab of Avadh built this tomb for hisfather. The structure is one of the finest examples of Mughalarchitecture.


Jantar Mantar: This is an observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singh. This observatory can calculate astronomical movements accurately.


Qutab Minar: Qutbuddin erected the Qutab Minar in 1911, as a victory tower. It has a height of 72.5 Meters, a base of14.32 Meters and tapers to 2.75 Meters. It is the highest stone tower inIndia. It is one of the finest Islamic structures and recognizedlandmarks of Delhi visited by tourists. The Sultan’s successor andson-in-law, Iltutmish, completed it. The tomb of Iltutmish still standsin ruins started in 1235 beside the Qutab Minar but could not becompleted.


The Bahai Temple – Lotus Temple: It was built in 1986; the Bahai temple is set amidst pools and gardens. There is freeentry for everybody. It is place of silent pray and meditation. The viewof the temple is very spectacular especially in the evening.


Birla Mandir or Lakshmi Narayan Temple : This temple was built by G. D. Birla in 1938. This beautiful temple is located inthe city center near Connaught Place. The temple is dedicated to thegoddess of prosperity and good fortune.


ISKCON Temple: It was built in 1998 on a small hillock by the Hare-Rama Hare- Krishna cult followers. This elegantlybuilt temple complex is dedicated to the Lord Krishna. This is one ofthe largest temple complexes in India.


Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple: It is situated in Delhi and epitomises Indian culture. The complex was inaugurated on 6November 2005. The grand, ancient-styled Swaminarayan Akshardham complexwas built in only five years. It brilliantly showcases the essence ofIndia’s ancient architecture, traditions and timeless spiritualmessages.
