Sometimes, no matter what your sexual preference, no matter how much you love your husband or brother or neighbour; you just want to get away from it all on a girl's road trip.
So that is what my sister, me and 10 other like-minded women did this past summer. We signed up for a women’s tour through our travel agent (who also happens to be a woman working for Voyages Groupe Ideal - owned and operated by 3 vibrant, dynamic women with over 40 years in the travel industry) and we headed out on a spa/hiking/walking/drinking/eating/laughing adventure in the Canadian Rockies.
The Canadian Rockies are stunning. I remember being in Switzerland and thinking “There are no other mountainous landscapes as beautiful as this” and then as a proud/surprised Canadian arriving in Lake Louise, Alberta and thinking “Dorothy, am I still in Canada? This is stunning.”
Here are the top 5 things that happen on a middle-aged girl's road trip:
5. You yell out “I’m boiling hot – I can’t take it” not while hiking or working out but while out for dinner or sitting completely still having a cocktail – and everyone understands exactly how that is possible.
4. You keep your “bed head” as is and ditch the make-up, the uncomfortable clothes, the bikini underwear (you get to wear those really big ones – like a bucket – that you keep for special days), you don’t have to check your reflection in the tinted window of a parked car, you just let it all go, let it all hang out and no one on your tour gives a damn.
3. The group has to wait while you run back to your hotel room for something you forgot and when you return, they ask you what you forgot and they fully understand when you reply “I got there and I forgot what I forgot.”
2. You laugh or sneeze so hard that you have to change (and we are not talking about changing who you are or how you think or anything philosophical).
And the #1 thing that happens on a girl's road trip:
You remember to laugh.
