Snorkeling and scuba diving are looked at as some of the most adventurous outdoor sports a person can undertake. Whether you’ve never snorkeled, or you’ve seen the amazing coral reefs of Maui, Hawaii, there is always another amazing underwater creature to discover for yourself. There are so many underwater wildlife creatures that a person can stumble upon, bringing your mind and emotions to a higher level of learning and excitement. Today, we are going to go over some of the best spots to go snorkeling in the country of Belize!
Shark Ray Alley
This may sound quick scary for many, but Shark Ray Alley is a place located in Belize for some of the best and most exciting snorkeling experiences around! It’s located right in the Ambergris Caye and its home to fisherman, as they used to clean their catches, actually depositing the leftovers in the waters. Sounds quite strange why a person may want to snorkel here, right? Well, you see, all “leftover” food actually began to attract Nurse Sharks, as well many Southern Sting Rays and sometimes the occasional Eagle Ray would come in and because of this type of activity, a lot of snorkelers are drawn to explore this place. A great key note to keep in mind is that Nurse Sharks are not very dangerous, as they harbor mannerisms of being very gentle!
Hol Chan
This place is actually a subaquatic marine reserve located on the South end of Ambergris Caye, believe it or not! It’s a reserve in a national park, which can be easily retrieved by boat. Pretty interesting, right? Now, what makes this little location so stimulating is that the park is chiefly focused around a channel through the barrier reef! Now, the actual break in the reef itself is only twenty to twenty-five yards across and around, as well measuring twenty-five to thirty feet deep, which will make this little location like the Florida Keys, a key site for the beginner snorkelers whom are not too keen on branching out to the huge and wide open!
Tres Cocos
This place is quite the interesting location for true, snorkeling escapade if this is your first-time experiencing what snorkeling is all about! Tres Cocos is quite the shallow place to dive underneath the waters, actually! This place norms only four to eight feet deep, so if you are a true beginner or want to bring your kids along with you to experience snorkeling, Tres Cocos would be a great starting point! Be sure to expect a very nice assortment of soft coral reefs, which are not too overwhelming and a cute mixture of smaller, tropical fish!
Gladden Cayes
This location is truly, well worth the trouble to get there! This place is located inside the Gladden Split, which is a break inside the barrier reef, North of Placencia. Now, to actually get to Gladden Cayes, one must sail through the Badlands, which is an area inside the reef tormented shallows, as well patch reefs! Just traveling to this location can be quite the adventure, must less the overall snorkeling involvement! When you finally arrive down underneath the waters, a snorkeler will most definitely get to witness a full universe of sea life, sponges and small corals which are increasing in ways most people have never seen from other snorkeling locations before! Visitors have also stated that they have seen the Caribbean Reef Squid, which is very intellectual to witness and experience, as watching it change colors right before your eyes!
