What are the moral impacts of Hajj?

As we know, every Muslim aspires to perform Hajj in the holy city of Mecca. It is one of the main pillars and religious duties of Islam. This sacred trip is a collection of several rituals. It has a great history, great significance, and numerous moral impacts. Of course, the topic "What are the moral impacts of Hajj" will increase your knowledge.

Hajj is an annual pilgrimage to Mecca, which is considered to be the holiest city for Muslims. Every physically and financially capable Muslim must perform it at least once in his life. Hajj is a symbol of unity, equality, brotherhood, peace, and tolerance which can be experienced during various Hajj rituals.

When will be Hajj in 2023?

Hajj 2023 will start in the evening of

Monday, 26 June

And will end in the evening of

Saturday, 1 July

This time, Muslims have started booking their Hajj packages in the early months, so that they can get cheap and good deals for their annual Hajj.

Hajj – moral effects

Pilgrims learn numerous good morals during Hajj and apply these morals in their lives. These morals are the following:

Equality

Millions of Muslims from all over the world, whether they are rich or poor, old or young, come together to perform the holy pilgrimage. They are reminded that they are all created equal in the sight of Allah Almighty.

Brotherhood

Despite having diverse ethnicities and countries, pilgrims behave toward each other like blood brothers during the annual pilgrimage. According to many Islamic narrations, Muslims are brothers.

Showing surrender and humility to Allah (SWT)

When engaging in worship, Muslims should be humble before Allah Almighty because they are a creation of Him. They should not think of their act of worship as a favour to Allah. He is the one who bestows benefits upon them, the greatest of which is that He guided them to this true religion.

Altruism

This is the best quality that a Muslim can learn from Hajj. Pilgrims show altruism to each other with regard to food, drink, clothing, etc. This represents Muslims as one body, and this is by virtue of the favour of Allah and Islam.

Allah Almighty and the teachings of Islam place peace and tolerance among Muslims. All the feelings of unity, affection, solidarity, and brotherhood among Muslims are a result of the Islamic gatherings.

With difficulty comes ease

One of the many rituals of Hajj is walking between the hills of Safa and Marwa, as Hajar (A.S.) did. The story of Hajar (A.S.), Prophet Ibrahim’s (A.S.) wife, is one of hardship, fortitude and ultimately hope and patience. When pilgrims run between these two hills, they are reminded of her struggles. Hajar (A.S.) and her infant Prophet Ismail (A.S.) were thirsty and exhausted, so she ran in search of water.

However, a spring erupted and the holy water of Zamzam began to flow, a reward for the persistence and hope of the Prophet's mother. This stage of Hajj serves as a reminder that despite the difficulties faced in life, things will not get better. Allah likes patience and struggle.

Significance of Hajj

Muslims travel to Makkah and Madinah to purify their souls, seek forgiveness and be closer to Allah (SWT).

In addition to being an obligatory religious duty, Muslims believe that performing Hajj has spiritual benefits that allow them to renew themselves. This holy journey serves as a reminder of the Day of Judgment when Muslims believe people will stand before God. Regardless of their race, colour or culture, Muslims from all over the world come together for Hajj, which serves as a symbol of brotherhood.

Every physically and financially capable must undertake this sacred trip at least once in his lifetime. If some are out of the list to join Hajj this year, don't despair as they have a chance to perform Umrah. It is a short Hajj due to less reward. There are several options to join Umrah in the form of Umrah packages. But Hajj is obligatory in Islam and Umrah is unnecessary.
