Yonezawa is a castle town in Yamagata Prefecture (Northern Honshu) that was once home to the Uesugi clan (14th-17th Centuries). The original castle buildings have been long destroyed, but Ueshugi Jinja Shrine, which was built at the center of the site, remains.
