The easiest way to reach Leh was by taking a flight, so we flew to Kushok Bakula Airport, Leh. We flew in the early morning flight, and it took an hour to reach Leh. The bird-eye view of the entire route crossing the hilly and snow-capped mountain was a retreat to eyes. Once we landed at Leh Airport, the feeling was one of its kind. The Leh Airport surrounded by barren mountains. Once we reached the hotel, we took rest for some time to help our body to acclimatize to the climatic conditions of Leh.
We were so curious and impatient to explore the new place, so we visited the local Leh market. Based on our experience, visiting Leh market was fruitful as it made us familiar with the local crowd, and it helped us understand the culture prevailing there. Ladakhi people are friendly and helpful to the tourist at their place. We went to nearby sightseeing such as Leh Palace, a former royal palace overlooking Leh city. Once we reached the top, the panoramic view of Leh city was stunning and mesmerizing. Also, we made a quick visit to Shanti Stupa, the calmest place in the Leh region, and it gave us positive energy.
The next day, we started the day with the visit to the Hall of fame. We learned about the heroic stories of the Indian army and the local troops who fought bravely to serve the mother nation. When I walked out of the Kargil War Memorial, my heart was full of emotion. The next stop was Kali Mata temple, situated on the hilltop, dedicated to Goddess Kali. From here, we got a panoramic view of the entire Leh city. Then we made a quick visit to Gurdwara Pathar Sahib, nicely maintained by the Indian military and a must place to visit. Out of the several enchanting places in Leh, we proceeded further to the famous magnetic hill as it defies gravity, and it was a good experience of a lifetime for one to watch it. The final sightseeing to wind up for the day was the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar River. This river confluence was just an incredible place, the water in these rivers has two different shades, which can see when they merge, and the mountain behind was stunning.
Today we started for Nubra valley, and the weather was superb. The chill wind and beautiful mountains were refreshing. Wow, the panoramic views of the parallel mountains and the beauty of Leh are speechless. The best way to get close to Leh was to keep staring at those stunning mountains and talk to them. The way to Nubra valley was striking, and we fell in love with its beauty for sure. We met many bikers on the way waving hands to us, and we felt energetic.
The beautiful route from Leh to Nubra valley passes through scenic Khardungla Pass, Diskit, and Hunder. We approached Khardungla Pass, the oldest and highest motorable road, and we have witnessed fresh snow had covered the stunning mountains and the temples at the pass. Out here, as prayer flags fluttered, enthusiast lined up to take snap with near board which read, ‘Khardungla Pass’ one of the most photographed places in Leh. When I was here, I stole some time and enjoyed noodles, steamed momos, and tea in a canteen run by the army.
The famous places to visit in Nubra include dunes and camel safari at Hunder. Few minutes into the drive, we started captivating view of the famous dunes of Nubra valley welcomed us. Even the route to Hunder provided us with a different feel of mountains ranging from various shades and colors. We enjoyed a ride on a double-humped camel, and it was a unique experience. The hotel in Nubra was perfect, and the foods were decent enough. Being a passionate photographer and love capturing nature, this was the best place.
Our guide suggested making the Pangong Tso trip directly from Nubra Valley via Shyok instead of going back to Leh. Today the most awaited journey to Pangong Tso (lake) started from Nubra Valley via Shyok. Once we reached Agyam Bridge, we took the left route that led us to the villages of Shyok and then to Durbuk. The roads were silent and not up to the marks at some places. However, the journey to Pangong Tso was adventurous. We passed through mesmerizing mountains, flowing rivers, and landslide-prone areas. After Durbuk, we headed left towards Tangtse and followed the traditional route further. The bikers were making it even more exciting and attracting us towards the Pangong Tso (Lake).
En route to Pangong Tso, once the daylight faded, we just had our car headlight to rely on, and the visuals around us just appeared like shadows. It was evening, and our cab drove towards our camp. Having reached late in the night, we were so tired, and we didn’t have the energy to explore around.
Pangong Tso enthralled me from the moment I saw it through my tent. Mesmerizing is the only way I can describe this experience of Pangong Tso at first sight.
The next day after having breakfast, we pay a visit to the place of our fantasy. The beauty of Pangong Lake was difficult to express. This picturesque lake is 140 km, and 30% of the lake is in India, and 70% is in China.
We have seen it all about Pangong Lake through movies or online, and in reality, its beauty was speechless. Apart from Bollywood hysteria, we have noticed many people visiting Pangong Tso for its exquisite natural beauty.
As informed by the guide, the lake changes its color and shows different shades. We came across and trying to see at least three to four types of color in this pristine water body. It was mesmerized to see barren mountains behind the lake enraptured us with their stark contrast to these blue, drawing visitors from all over the globe.
Post lunch, we visited Spangmik, a small village on the bank of the lake where inhabitants rear pashmina goats. We also explored migratory birds at the lake, one of the major attractions at Pangong Lake.
The day ended well with a picturesque view of sunrise at Pangong Lake. At night we set a bonfire as it was chill during the night near Pangong Lake.
We started early as returning to Leh from Pangong Lake took us around 5 hours. While returning to Leh, we stopped at Changla Pass and enjoyed tea. The next stop was at Hemis Monastery, the most important of all Ladakhi monasteries. The place was peaceful, and the surroundings were scenic. Then we visited Thiksey monastery, a Tibetan Buddhist monastery that resembles a Potala palace of Lhasa. The last stop was at Shey Palace, also known as Shey Monastery. For us, the center of attraction out here was the statue of Gautama Buddha.
To sum up, Ladakh is an ideal destination for all tourists. The tour ended with all the beautiful memories of Ladakh.
