The 26th Annual HAMPTONS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL in THE HAMPTONS: OCTOBER 4-8, 2018!
THE HAMPTONS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL…the premiere film event in The Hamptons, will be held over Columbus Day Weekend 2018! The Festival attracts over 25,000 visitors to various theaters across the Hamptons. HIFF continues to attract some of the best films of the year. The Festival was founded to celebrate independent film—long, short, fiction and documentary—and to introduce a variety of international films and filmmakers.
The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) is a year-round 501(c)3 non-profit organization celebrating 26 years with year-round first-run screenings, student film workshops, a Screenwriters Lab, a renowned summer documentary program, over 40 free summer screening. The annual Festival each October showcases approx 150 films.
HIFF announced many of the films for 2018, including selections for the Competition section, Spotlight section, World Cinema Narrative and World Cinema Documentary sections, and Shorts Programs, as well as the signature programs including Views From Long Island; Air, Land & Sea; Compassion, Justice & Animal Rights; and Conflict & Resolution. In addition, the festival revealed the anticipated films, Yorgos Lanthimos’ THE FAVOURITE, starring Academy Award®- winning actresses Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz and Golden Globe®-winning actress Olivia Colman, about two cousins fighting to be the court favorite of Queen Anne, which will serve as the Friday Centerpiece; and Marielle Heller’s CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME?, which wll screen as the Sunday Centerpiece, a biopic based on the life of writer Lee Israel and starring Academy Award®-nominated actress Melissa McCarthy. The festival also added two films to the Spotlight section: Academy Award®-winning director Steve McQueen’s WIDOWS, starring Academy Award®-winning actress Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki and Cynthia Erivo, the story of four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities; and the East Coast Premiere of Felix Van Groeningen’s (HIFF 2009 & 2013 alum) BEAUTIFUL BOY, starring Academy Award®-nominated actor Timothée Chalamet and Golden Globe®-nominated actor Steve Carell, about a son’s struggle with drug addiction.
The Festival is a very popular event in The Hamptons. Cash and in-kind prizes awarded totals over $180,000, and HIFF is host to four competitions, including early-career filmmakers and provides six other awards: Conflict & Resolution, The Tangerine Female Filmmaker award, Social Justice award, Lifetime Achievement award, Creative Impacting in Acting award, and monetary awards for shorts by college students.
