Annapurna Base Camp Trek starts with a short drive from Pokhara city, located 220 k.m driving distance from Kathmandu. Taking 5-6 hours of journey, and by air about 30 minutes to reach Pokhara, around Mid-West Nepal. From Pokhara various routes to start Annapurna base camp trek, the shortest and direct way, the drive of 2-3 hours. Towards Bhirethati village and drive further near at Jhinu village. Crossing a long suspension bridge heading past Jhinu, a village with a hot natural spring nearby. Few hours climb to Chomrong a major and large Gurung village the door to Annapurna base camp.
Overnight stay in Chomrong in its nice lodge, then heads towards Annapurna base camp entering into nice cool forest. Then follow Modi River right to its glacial source at base camp, walking past Bamboo, Dovan, Himalaya Hotel, and Deurali. The last place is Machhapuchare base camp, situated at the base of towering Machhapuchare Himal, the famous Fish-Tail peak. Which is the start of the sanctuary to reach at the base camp of few hours from MBC. Taking almost a week round trip back to Pokhara, energetic people can cover the distance in less than 7 days also.
Ghorepani Poon Hill via ABC Trek is one of the beautiful and most popular trekking routes in the Annapurna region. The other routes, a short drive from Pokhara to Dhampus a large Gurung village with a grand panorama of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Manaslu range. The walk takes you to Potana, Tolka, and Landruk, then at Jhinu village to reach Chomrong village. From here with only one route to base camp with few overnights stops before reaching the destination at Annapurna base camp.
A trek of little more than 7 days, but an enjoyable walk visiting various nice Gurung villages en-route to Annapurna base camp. Next interesting route drive from Pokhara to near Ghandruk, another large Gurung village, and then walk to Chomrong in a day. Where walk leads on the same and only way to base camp, of near 7-8 days. Then ending at Jhinu village with a hot spring.
People with more days to spend in Nepal can combine the trek with scenic Ghorepani and Poon Hill. A place for striking sunrise over an array of Himalayan ranges with Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Manaslu range of mountains. A beautiful and popular trek within enchanting rhododendron forest to reach Chomrong and then to Annapurna base camp. A total of 9 to 10 days.Various options to choose on a hike to Annapurna base camp, where one can take the reverse route as well to reach Pokhara.
Climate Season wise:
The most preferable time is in spring from March to May, and autumn/fall starts from September to November. Springtime is lovely with wild-flowers in seasonal bloom, as well as clear views and pleasant walks with enough sunshine. During the day till late afternoon, can be cold in the morning and nighttime. With snow-fall above 2,000 m high sometimes.
Autumn season also a high peak time for Annapurna base camp trek, where days are fine and clear for views and walks, can get cold in the late afternoon, night time till next morning. People who are interested to hike in the off and low season of winter can visit.
Where there will be fewer trekkers to encounter on route to Annapurna base camp. Days are fine and sunny but very cold from late afternoon and night time as well in the morning time. Chances of snow-fall as well but interesting in a peaceful environment with few visitors. An ideal Christmas and New Year Holiday.
