If celebrating your marriage with a honeymoon on a tropical beach while sipping cocktails isn’t your style, you are not alone. More and more newlyweds are opting to indulge their love of adventure on their first postnuptial trip, and here are awesome countries to consider:
Peru
This South American country is as magical as any wedding day. You are spoilt for choice with its luscious Amazon jungle, ancient and mysterious civilizations. Enjoy the history and culture of Lima, or venture out to its towering Andes mountain mountains, endless beaches, and other breathtaking landscapes. Of course no trip to Peru is complete unless visit Cuzco, tour or trek Machu Picchu, the breathtaking "‘Lost City of the Incas," and reflect on your own sacred vows as you gaze upon the Sacred Valley.
Finland
If seeing the wintertime Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) is your kind of “bright lights, not-big city” idea of an adventure honeymoon, then Finland is fantastic. Up in Lapland you can spend your day cross country skiing. Or just relax on a tour of this winter wonderland by a husky or reindeer powered sled. A glass igloo awaits your slumber after you both turn your gaze upwards to the spectacular sky at night.
Morocco
If you’re ready for vibrant tastes and textures, Morocco has them in spades, and more. Take a trek through the Atlas Mountains or surf on one of its sun-kissed beaches. The markets of Marrakesh and Fez are filled with exotic spices and handcrafted textiles. Stay in a kasbah before you trek along paths travelled for centuries by those selling their wares across Africa. If this sounds exciting, Morocco might be the perfect place for your first adventure as a couple.
India
Visiting a country with over a billion people is often an adventure in itself. Yet you can also find serenity and beauty in its diverse landscape like nowhere else in the world. One of the most adventurous areas is Kerala, located on India’s southwest coast. You can take a dip in the Arabian Sea or mountain bike through the tea and spice covered hills of the Western Ghats; kayak endless waterways; and trek through protected wildlife sanctuaries for a chance to see elephants and tigers in the wild. And scores of fantastic historic sights include of course the Taj Mahal in Agra, one of the world's most famous monuments to love.
Laos
Landlocked between Thailand and Vietnam in Southeast Asia, Laos is a breathtaking country that's relatively under the radar for Western visitors. Here you’ll be mesmerised by the culture and diverse landscape, and adventures await your post-nuptial arrival. Whether you choose to mountain bike or kayak under waterfalls, the options are endless. The ancient UNESCO World Heritage city Luang Prabang is also a place not to be missed. Or head along the Nam Khan River, then mountain bike or trek to the friendly hill tribes. An adventure honeymoon in Laos is one you will never forget.
