Halloween is once again upon us! It´s a haunted world we live in (in more ways than one), and lots of people travel to experience the adventurous and spooky - not just around All Hallow´s Eve but year round . Abandoned houses, ancient palaces and fortresses, old cemeteries, dense forests – many of these have a strange, peculiar feeling about them, and more than a few are the sites of tragic events and present-day ghost sightings. Here are ten of the most intriguing:

Akershus Castle - Oslo, Norway

Given the past of the oldest remaining structure in Norway´s capital (dating back to the late 1290s), it´s nort surprising that this fortress (top) is considered to be one of Europe´s most haunted places, with tragic stories to tell as among other things a notorious prison which took the lives of uncountable inmates, and the site many executions - most recently by the occupying Nazis during World War II (as well as that after the war of Norway´s Nazi puppet ruler Vidkun Quisling. Notable ghosts reported include the Malcanisen, the vicious ghost of a guard dog purportedly buried alive, and the Mantelgeisten, a woman who regularly manifests in the castle´s Margaret Hall. Ancient Ram Inn - Gloucestershire, United Kingdom

Built at least 800 years ago in the town of Wotton-under-Edge (three hours west of London), England´s purportedly most haunted spot, now dedicated solely to paranormal tours and events,  has plenty of atmosphere - winding oak staircases, drooping wooden beams, creaky old floorboard - and

This place is popularly known for the satanic sacrifices and malevolent entities that used to happen here. Moreover, the owner of this Ancient Ram Inn once reported being snatched out of the bed by an invisible spirit on his very first night in the house.

Aradale Lunatic Asylum - Victoria, Australia 

Australia´s biggest abandoned mental hospital is a 60-building complex was opened in 1867 and housed some of the worst lunatics of the British Empire. Stories can be heard from the locals of the ghost of Nurse Kerry made it a popular entry from Australia in the list of most haunted places in the world.

Bhangarh Fort - Rajasthan, India

Bhangarh fort is said to be one of the most haunted places not just in India but in the whole world. The fort is located in Alwar district in Rajasthan, and also is one of the oldest forts in Rajasthan. It is not allowed and advisable to visit Bhangarh after Sunset as it’s clearly not safe. During the daytime, one can go and visit this place.

Fern Hill Hotel - Tamil Nadu, India

This hotel located in Ooty, Tamil Nadu is said to be one of the topmost haunted places in India. It was during the shooting of a Bollywood film, Raaz when the choreographer Saroj Khan and others from the crew heard the voice of someone moving the furniture on the first floor. Later they were told by the receptionist that there is no first floor in the hotel. In order to travel to India, book your American airlines.

Island of Dolls - Mexico

The artificial Island of Dolls is said to be one of the most haunted destinations across the globe. The related story talks about a girl, who died here after drowning in a Mexican canal and later turned into a spirit that wanders. People who visit the island have reported that the eyes of the dolls follow them, which is kind of weird. They have even reported that they have heard the voices of laughing and whispers.

High Gate Cemetery - London, United Kingdom

High gate cemetery situated in North London is one of the most haunted places in England. It was established in 1839 and is now a resting place of over 170,000 people. The story behind this place is about 7-feet tall phantom of the High gate Vampire with a long black coat and hypnotic red eyes. The spirit is believed to cause sudden time freeze and drop in temperature.

Mark King’s Close - Edinborough, United Kingdom

The Mark King’s Close was a series of underground tunnels and streets in Edinburgh that led to numerous homes and business houses in the 16th and 17th centuries. When a disease broke out in 1645, the area was abandoned. Currently a part of the city tours, the Close has been in reports for sightings of ghosts of an old lady, a woman in a black and young girl named Annie.

St. Augustine Lighthouse - St. Augustine, Florida, USA

The lighthouse which was built in the 19th century is said to be the most haunted place in America. The lighthouse is located in Florida and is still functioning. People have reported paranormal sightings around the lighthouse. Many people have claimed to witness the spirits of a woman in blue velvet and the lighthouse keeper with a cigar.

Screaming Tunnel - Canada

If you ever wish to travel to Canada, then do make an effort to visit this place but during the daytime. There are reports registered of people witnessing a girl around the tunnel and suddenly disappear. Many have also reported that they have heard someone crying around the tunnel. It is considered to be one of the most haunted places in the world.
