Handing back over your hire car at the end of your holidays needs to be a simple and quick transaction with most people having flights to catch and not allot of time to spare. Follow these tips and the whole experience should be a smooth one:
If possible leave yourself plenty of time for the return of the vehicle. If you are returning a Portugal car hire to Lisbon Airport then allow time for traffic to the airport, finding the car hire depot, checking onto your flight, airport security and finding your departure gate.
If you are returning your vehicle within normal depot hours make sure a member of staff checks the car with you to verity that there is no damage to the vehicle and it is being returning in the same condition that you collected it in. Should you be returning outside of depot hours then you are normally asked to return the keys in a ‘drop box’. You are responsible for that vehicle until the keys are collected from the drop box so do ensure you have parked the vehicle in a safe and secure place.
You should always obtain a copy of the return paperwork. This will help should you need to query anything with the hire car company at a later date.
