Want to beat the summer rush to the Mediterranean? Then consider a visit to Greece in May. Traveling to Greece before the summer rush has a lot to offer. Less crowds when you visit ancient Athens and the Acropolis, or the Temple of Apollo at Delphi makes taking photos and hiking around ruins and monuments a much more enjoyable experience. The cost of accommodations in the favorite Cyclades Islands of Santorini, Mykonos, Ios, Paros and Naxos are still in low season pricing. Sit at a taverna and sample Greek specialties such as octopus, souvlaki, moussaka and don’t forget to sample the chalky, white, Greek liquor, Ouzo. If you like traveling in a warm month, and to take a quieter vacation where you will not pay top dollar, then your pack your bags and visit Greece before the summer party scene begins.
In May you just might get a Greek beach or even an Greek island to yourself

I visited in November and December, both Athens and Rhodes - very quiet, still nice and warm, easier to mingle with locals. Oh, and I saw fireworks atop the Acropolis from my flat window!
