This singular island in Indonesia is a pocket-full-of-sunshine and a favorite destination for tourists. With more than ten huge cities and nine scenic destinations, Bali has something for everyone, including cultural and spiritual landmarks, the beauty of the beaches, the grandeur of the volcanic mountains, the finger-licking Balinese food and the spectacle of traditional Balinese performers. Bali has endless places to explore and things to do (check out our company's seven-day Bali itinerary, including options on where to stay, as well as magnificent beaches and sights).
Gunung Kawi
This 11th-century Hindu temple in Tampaksiring is a huge complex comprising of 10 rock-cut shrines, dedicated to King Anak Wungsu of the Udayana dynasty and his favorite queens. Set in a scenic forest and terraced rice fields, Gunung Kawi exhibits influences of both Hindu and Buddhist culture.
Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park
On Bali's southernmost peninsula, south of Denpasar and the Kuta resort, this 60-hectare park was inaugurated in 2018, and its highlight is Indonesia's tallest statue (72 meters), depicting the Hindu god Vishnu mounting the mythical iconic Garuda bird, 126 meters high and weighing 3,000 tons; visitors can ascend the idol and get panoramic views including Jimbaran Bay, Kuta, Tanjung Benoa, and Sanur with Mount Agung and Mount Batur. The surrounding area is packed with other sculptures, gardens, cultural performances, and film screenings, along with cafés and restaurants.
Lovina Beach
Located on the northwest shore, some three hours from capital Denpasar as well as the Kuta resort area, Lovina is not just one of Bali's most beautiful beaches, but also a serene, laid-back, usually uncrowded alternative to Kuta.
Seminyak
This town offers some of the finest beach experiences in Bali - a white sand strand with an alluring view of the sea and ideal for surfing. Seminyak also has an interesting 16th-century temple called Pura Petitenget good for a quick visit. Petitenget Beach is also a temple beach worth visiting. World-class hotels, spas, and restaurants are available.
Kuta Square
Great place to shop, chill-out, grab a drink and have some authentic Balinese food on the go! Lined with shops and restaurants, every Bali tour has to have a visit here!
Kuta's Ground Zero Memorial
This monument is constructed in the memory of the deadliest terror attack of Indonesia, which took place in 2002. This elegant piece of architecture has a huge marble block which has names of the deceased carved on it. The visit to the monument is a touching experience. The place is illuminated at night and offers a great view.
