Trekking in Nepal is a dream comes true - of hiking up the world's tallest mountain, Everest, through the clouds. Those seeking for the best adventure in the Nepalese mountains have increasingly been grabbing attention to the Everest Base Camp trek. But there are still several hidden gems beyond Everest Base Camp to discover, including the Gokyo Lakes.

When you are actually willing to add on the three more extra days and hence make the difficult trek over the place of Cho La Pass, the amazing trip to these excellent scenic lakes can be extremely known as the rewarding.

Everest Base Camp vs. Gokyo: When to Visit (Seasons)

You can make the visit during the months of August to early June. Since June to August are the rainy months in Nepal and the period when flights are delayed, and it may be difficult to get to Lukla, neither trek is generally recommended during that period.

In late November to mid-February, Cho La pass is often closed due to snow as it is one of the higher passes in the region. You can hike to Gokyo in the spring, but you'll need to backtrack to the main trail and don't cross the pass to reach Base Camp.

Everest Base Camp vs Gokyo: Difficulty

Kala Patthar's peak is 5,545 meters high, but Everest Base Camp plus Gokyo Lakes is harder. In addition to the long trek, the Cho La pass is quite challenging, with its glistening ice trail.

Even during the winter months, when the pass is closed due to snow, the Gokyo Lake Trek is impossible. If you have already visited Everest Base Camp, you should feel comfortable trekking at higher altitudes, and if the weather is poor, you may want to bring microspikes to keep your feet from getting wet.

Both the treks have their moments of huge difficulty related to any of the terrain or steep inclines. But if you are willing to endure the maximum time and great effort, I recommend hiking to the incredible Gokyo Lakes.

Everest Base Camp vs. Gokyo: Trekking Best Experience

Around 500 people make their way to trek to Everest Base Camp every day as during the high season. Even though it is less busy at times of the year, the trek is still the most popular.

As people learn more about this stunning trek, Gokyo Lakes is starting to become more popular, but you can still avoid crowds on the main trail, making it more enjoyable for you to immerse yourself in it.

Secondly, the Gokyo w/Everest Trek features the same route up and down to Everest Base Camp.

By including the Gokyo Lakes extension and using the Cholo pass, the entire trip will feel more like a circuit, allowing you to avoid repeating the same steps twice and take in more of the mountain's beauty.

Everest Base Camp vs. Gokyo: Gokyo Ri vs. Kala Patthar

No matter which trek you choose, you'll reach the black rock peak of Kala Patthar (5,545 m) at the end of the trek. This is where you can see Nuptse Nup, Changtse, and Lhotse and Everest's infamous, up-close view.

During a trip to Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lake trek, you'll view four of the fourteen tallest peaks in the world: Everest (8850 meters), Lhotse (8501 meters), Makalu (8475 meters), and Cho Oyu (8153 meters). Some of the tallest glaciers in the Himalayas can also be seen below.
