Everest Base Camp Trek in Autumn

Everest Base Camp Trek in Autumn

Are you planning a trek to Everest Base Camp and wondering about the right time to trek? If yes, autumn is one of the best times to visit there. The autumn starts in September and lasts until November. However, the first half of September might have some rainy days and effects for the Lukla flights.

I suggest trekking to Everest Base Camp in October and November. December offers the best weather conditions in the Everest Region, although it will be freezing at this time. If you do not care about cold temperatures, like to trek with warm clothes, and prefer less crowded places, December can be the perfect time for you.

The monsoon rain clears haze, and vegetation looks fresh and dark green with crystal-clear mountain views in the Everest Region in autumn.

Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary

The Everest Base Camp is a 12-day trip from Kathmandu to Kathmandu that begins with a short scenic flight to Lukla from Kathmandu or Ramechhap. Right after landing at Lukla airport, you start walking towards Phakding on the same day through typical Sherpa villages like Chhepulung, Thadokoshi, and Ghat. You trek to Namche Bazaar on the second day and have an altitude practice rest day in Namche Bazaar on the third day. While having an acclimatization day in Namche, you hike to Hotel Everest View on the third day.

The fourth day’s journey goes to Tengboche, where you can visit an ancient historical Buddhist monastery and participate in regular worship with the monks. After Tengboche, you walk to Dingboche on the fifth day and take the second altitude practice rest day in Dingboche on the sixth day. While taking the second altitude practice rest day, you hike to Nangkartshang Hill, which is located at 5110m above sea level.

On the seventh day, you trek to Lobuche. You trek to Gorakshep, hike to the Everest Base Camp for 8 days, and sleep at Gorakshep. The ninth day begins with climbing to Kala Patthar, which is the best spot to see Mt. Everest and other high mountains, and trekking back to Pheriche. Similarly, the tenth day’s trek is back to Namche Bazaar and the 11th to Lukla. You will fly out of Lukla on the 12th day with an unforgettable Everest experience.
