Thinking of coming to Costa Rica, and looking for something different? An experience off the beaten path and unique? Dominical-01-300x199.jpg?width=300Check out Costa Rica’s “lost coast” from Dominical to Uvita. This lesser-traveled region along the southern Pacific Coast is a magical place where lush, green, rain forested mountains tumble down to the warm aquamarine sea. It is an exotic paradise of hidden treasures – verdant jungle, rushing rivers, majestic waterfalls, spectacular sunsets, palm and almond tree-lined volcanic dark sandy beaches. Described as a “wild” region in guide books, the area is buzzing with life from scarlet macaws to toucans, squirrel and spider monkeys to howler and white-faced capuchin monkeys, iguanas and chirping insects, and a wide range of marine life. This is home to the Marino Ballena National Park (“ballena” in Spanish means “whale”). Just off shore during much of the year you can see humpback whales and dolphins. Sea turtles love it too and Olive Ridley and hawksbill turtles come on shore to nest. Much of the coastline is rocky with waves and breaks highly rated among the pro-surfers of the world. A unique experience that is definitely off the beaten path is the Envision Festival, Envision-01-300x191.jpg?width=270 to Bahia Ballena near Uvita. The festival’s website calls it “an art, music and sacred movement festival … a group of enlightened people from around the globe gathering together to celebrate culture, spirit and community.” In the same spirit of Burning Man, the alternative-culture and art festival held annually in the Nevada desert, the Envision Festival will have yoga, dance, art, music, permaculture and eco-educational workshops. Envision-02-150x150.jpg?width=150 Their sentiment is, “Join us in this magical place where time slows down and the outside world drops away.” Who can take you there?
