Puerto Plata is one of the Dominican Republic’s most amazing tourist destinations (if not its most). It has white and golden sandy beaches, Victorian houses, a historic area, the Isabel de Torres mountain and its cable car, but what's more, if adventures are your thing, you can enjoy the 27 waterfalls or cascades of Damajagua.
Damajagua is a geological fault where the waters form a canyon several kilometers in length, with parallel waterfalls above eleven meters. It is located 10 kilometers from Puerto Plata and is one of the great wonders of the province. The attraction is 27 small cascades and their respective pools with a depth of 7 meters. The adventure lies in the fact that you have to climb across each cascade until you reach number 27 and then come back diving into each pool. Impressive, isn’t it?
This natural wonder contains waters which are completely clear, refreshing and relaxing at the same time, but a word of warning – if you want to take a trip through the waterfalls it is essential that you do so accompanied by an instructor or a guide! In Damajagua you will have no trouble finding guides who will show you the secrets of this great adventure.
But Damajagua is not just water, it offers a wide variety of native trees and shrubs which are endemic to the island, as well as countless birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, crustaceans and insects. From the mountain’s peak you will be able to enjoy the pure air of the rainforests and the amazing scenery provided by a group of mountain ranges which will make you appreciate the island’s beauty.
