Buddha Purnima(Veshak)

Buddha Purnima or Veshak, popularly known as Buddha Jayanti is being celebrated in Nepal. It is also known as Veshak because it is celebrated on the full moon day(Purnima) in the month of Baiskhak/Veshak. It is a day traditionally observed by Buddhists all over the world. But it is celebrated in different day in the month of Baishak, April or May. 

It is celebrated to pay homage to Lord Buddha who spread Peace and enlightened the world by his blessings and knowledge. Different kinds of rally, procession is carried out to signify this day.

In Kathmandu, devotees visit Swayambu (The Monkey Temple), Shreegha (Small Swayambu), Bouddhanath Stupa to pray and worship Lord Buddha on this day. And a prayer session is conducted in Anandakuti Bihar, at Swayambhu. After the prayers, Kheer (rice, mixed with milk, sugar, dry fruits) is distributed to all.
