The park was named for the preservationist and actor who was on the California Beach and Parks Commission for 18 years. The visitor centre has exhibits on interpretive topics, and walking trails that are guided by nature and campfires. Camping sites, picnic areas, and RV sites are found within the park. If you're planning to open a shop for some time and take in the scenery, this could be the perfect location.

El Matador State Beach

It's hard to find the most romantic beach in El Matador. The beach is situated about 10 miles north of Malibu This small pocket beach is quiet and has rough shores, strong waves as well as some of the most clear waters on the coast of L.A. Use the bathroom on the upper level before making the steps down the bluff towards the shore. The rocks, caves and hidden coves are ideal to relax and enjoy the sunset.

Malibu Lagoon State Beach

If it's time to take out on the board put on a fresh coat of wax, and then zip onto the wetsuit. There's no better spot other than Surfrider Beach in Malibu. It lives up to its name, Surfrider is known for its incredibly long right-hand beach as well as it's a place to enjoy the waves or observe surfers from the shoreline as the sunset is setting upon their silhouettes.

Santa Monica State Beach

It is located just north of the historical Santa Monica Pier, this is among the most sought-after beach spots in LA. Bring your sunscreen, some cash for parking, and a blanket or a beach towel. Relax and let the sun and sand, and the waves do the rest.

Venice Beach

Venice Beach is a lively city beach, where the excitement involves as much crowd as surf, sand or skates. In reality the world-famous Ocean Front Walk often upstages the Pacific Ocean. Be on the lookout to see Harry Perry, the turbaned guitarist who is often seen rolling across the boardwalk. He is featured in a myriad of TV and film shows. Bodybuilders, chainsaw-jugglers, breakdancers, musicians as well as palm readers and all sorts of folk performers keep things exciting.

Manhattan Beach

In Manhattan Beach, it's all gorgeous people, shiny automobiles, huge sunglasses, and adorable lap dogs. However, that's only in the trendy part of town that is located near the beach which is where many scenes from TV shows have been shot. On the beach you can play on beaches with courts that appear to stretch for miles, as well as bodysurfing on the beachfront. Take a look at the aquarium located close to the bottom of the pier featuring interesting sea creatures along with a touch pool. If you are planning to get into the water, be aware that surfing is restricted to the south-facing side of the pier. Boogie boarders are restricted to the waters to the north side of the pier. It is forbidden to swim within the immediate vicinity of the beach.

Hermosa Beach

There's a distinct style that's prevalent in Hermosa Beach and its surrounding seaside communities that you can't see on the other L.A. beaches. You'll find people out shopping and enjoying a relaxing time in cafes with outdoor seating as are among the toned and tanned goddesses and beach gods who are frequenting the beach's sandy shores. Pier Plaza is the place to be if you'd rather not use sunscreen and towels for the beach. When you're at the beach an unspoiled stretch of sand is waiting, complete with nets for volleyball, ample space to sunbathe and sandcastle-building, and an asphalt walkway that can be walked on or cycling.

Cabrillo Beach

A favourite among locals and travellers who visit the beach with children with them, Cabrillo Beach is a peaceful spot close to San Pedro, with everything you require for a perfect excursion for the whole family. It is located on a small peninsula close to Point Fermin Park, the beach has two sides which are one of the sides that is outside the breakwater, which is open to the sea as well as one accessible to the harbour. Based on what you want to do the beach is used for, you can pick one side to enjoy fun or a well-deserved rest. After you've finished the beach, make your way to the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium and enjoy the interactive exhibits, the tidepool touch tanks and many other amazing activities.
