With 300 days of sunshine a year the Algarve is an ideal holiday destination for a relaxing family holiday. This sunny destination is one of Europe‘s hot spots, preferred by many families for their holidays, because of the outdoors and fun activities it offers to adults and children to enjoy their holiday. Let’s look at a few attractions in the Algarve where you can take children for a fun day out.

A day at the beach

With a coastline that stretches over coastline stretches a total of 124 miles, there are many places suitable for children and offering outdoor facilities, but we recommend these:

  • Portimao – Vau and Tres Irmaos
  • Lagoa – Grande Ferragudo
  • Loule – Quinta do Lago
  • Albufeira
  • Vila Real de Santo Antonio – Cacela

Seasonal water parks in the Algarve

With some of the largest water parks in Europe kids at any age will enjoy plenty of thrills and spills on a day out:

  • Aqualand, near Albufeira
  • Slide and Splash near Lagoa
  • Aquashow near Quarteira
  • Atlantic Park, Loule, and ZooMarine at Guia, near Albufeira

Adventure day out in Faro

For the brave in the family head for Olhao (east of Faro) and enjoy a day in the action-packed Braveland Adventure Park.

Close to nature in Algarve

Ria Formosa Natural Reserve is a narrow nature park of marshes, salt pans and lagoons between the land and sea. Great for bird-watching, hiking, biking and horse riding.

  • I will show this to my children and grandchildren. Most travel writers do not pay enough attention to those of us with families. Thank you.
