This small southern European country is having quite a moment, with its myriad allures from the beaches of the Algarve to the cultural and architectural delights of Lisbon and the wines of the north. What you may not know is that the Algarve´s stunning coastline is also home to some magnificent sea caves, and visitors can experience them via boat from various port towns in the region.

Benagil Cave

In the little fishing town of Benagil, this is probably the most famous sea cave in Europe, characterized by a big hole in the roof letting sunlight shine through. Tours leave from nearby beaches like Carvoeiro and often include stops to swim and explore other caves.

This is a very special cave tour because it’s a full-day tour with BBQ! Enjoy a 7-hour
BBQ cruise from Vilamoura to the famous Benagil Cave, perfect for families and friends. Relax on a comfortable catamaran, explore the stunning Algarve coast, and try kayaks or SUPs for extra fun. Kids will love the boat, and adults can unwind in the sun.

A highlight is the BBQ lunch on a hidden beach, with meats, fish, veggies, and drinks—vegetarian options included. This full-day adventure is a must for an unforgettable day at sea!

Explore the famous Benagil Cave and surrounding grottoes on this 1.5-hour private boat tour from Carvoeiro Beach. From Carvoeiro, a cute fishermen town, you’ll cruise in a small, modern boat that can enter the caves when conditions allow, perfect for photos. This private experience is ideal for groups of up to 10 people and includes visits to 10–12 caves along the beautiful coast. Departing and returning to Carvoeiro, this tour offers a unique and personal way to see the Algarve’s top natural sights.

Ponta da Piedade Cave

Explore the stunning Ponta da Piedade on this 1h15m cave tour from Lagos Marina. With small groups of up to 10 people, you’ll enjoy a personal experience guided by a friendly local skipper.

Cruise past iconic beaches like Praia da Batata, Dona Ana, and Camilo, and discover the names and stories behind the caves and rock formations. This scenic boat trip is a must-do in Lagos and offers fascinating insights into the region’s coastline and hidden gems.

In Lagos, you can book one of the many boat tours that go to the famous Ponta da Piedade caves. These rock formations are full of arches, hidden beaches, and clear water. The cliffs are golden and the views are amazing. Small boats take you close to the caves for great photos. For the most adventurous ones, we recommend joining a stand-up paddle or kayak tour.

Sagres

Discover the stunning coastline between Sagres and Salema on this 1.5-hour boat tour. Departing from Baleeira port, this cruise explores hidden caves, cliffs, rock formations, and even dinosaur footprints. You'll see quiet villages and secret beaches only visible from the sea.

The tour uses a rigid inflatable boat, safe and used for rescue missions, and fits up to 12 people. It's perfect for families—children over 3 are welcome, and life vests are provided. This is one of the top things to do in the Algarve, offering a unique view of the south coast.

Sesimbra Boat Tour

Sesimbra, near Lisbon, offers quieter but beautiful tours. The caves and cliffs here are part of a protected natural park called Arrábida. The waters are calm and great for swimming.by Bo

Discover the beauty of the Arrábida Nature Park on this 2-hour boat tour from Sesimbra, departing from Porto de Abrigo de Sesimbra. Just 30 minutes from Lisbon, it’s the perfect day trip to explore untouched nature, stunning beaches, and steep cliffs.

Cruise along the Arrábida National Park with its hidden caves and visit the Luíz Saldanha Marine Reserve, home to over 1,000 species. Enjoy the scenery, relax, and even take a swim in the clear, blue waters. A must-do coastal experience near Lisbon!

Each of these caves offers a special experience. Whether you want to explore famous spots or enjoy peaceful nature, a cave boat tour in Portugal is a must. Book in advance, especially in summer—they sell out fast!
