The best time to go on the Upper Mustang Trek is from March to November, but especially May to October. Unlike other parts of Nepal, Upper Mustang lies in the rain shadow of the Himalayas, so it stays mostly dry even during the monsoon (June to August). This makes summer a perfect time to explore its desert-like landscapes and unique culture. Spring (March–May) offers clear skies and blooming wildflowers, while autumn (September–November) brings fresh air and excellent mountain views. During the Tiji Festival in May, you can witness a special Tibetan Buddhist celebration in Lo Manthang. Winter (December–February) is frigid and not recommended due to snow and closed lodges in higher areas.
