The 12-day Everest Base Camp Trek from Kathmandu to Kathmandu is the most famous mountain trip in Nepal. There are hundreds of adventure travelers walking on this route every day during the high trekking season.
Trekking to the Everest Base Camp goes through Sagarmatha National Park, which is a natural UNESCO world heritage site in Nepal. After the first night's stay in Phakding, you trek to Namche Bazaar on the second day and take an altitude rest day in Namche Bazaar on the third day. You hike to Hotel Everest View for altitude practice on the third day and stay overnight in Namche.
The fourth journey goes to Tengboche, which is on a hill station. You can see magnificent views of Mt. Ama Dablam and more of Everest from this hill. You can also visit an ancient historical Buddhist monastery and join the offering with the monks in the evening in Tengboche.
You hike to Dingboche on the fifth day and take the second acclimatization rest day. You hike to Nangkartshang Hill on the 6th day during the second altitude practice rest day in Dingboche.
After the two-night stay in Dingboche, you trek to Lobuche on the 7th day. You will cross Thukla Pass before reaching Lobuche and see many memorials of dead climbers on the top of Thukla Pass today.
The 8th day of the Everest Base Camp Trek is the most important because you will reach the main destination. You trek to Gorak Shep with around a 3-hour walk through Khumbu Glacier. You have a quick lunch, leave equipment in the room, and hike to EBC by taking water and warm clothes. After the Base Camp visit, you hike back to Gorakshep and stay overnight.
You hike to Kala Patthar on the 9th day in the early morning and trek back to Pheriche through Lobuche and Thukla. You can even reach Pangboche if you walk faster and want to make the next day shorter. The 10th day’s trek from Pheriche or Pangboche is to Namche Bazaar. Then, you trek back to Lukla on the 11th day and fly out to Kathmandu on the 12th morning.
You can also complete the Everest Base Camp Trek in 9 days if you do not have enough time for the 12-day itinerary or do not want to trek back on the same trail after the Base Camp and Kala Patthar visits. The Everet Base Camp Helicopter Return Trek is optional for you in these cases.
