Built in 1620 over a paved route that connected the commercial districts of San Antonio to the west and San Leonardo to the east, the route was completed in 1762 and entirely paved in the nineteenth century. The site of Bergamo’s traditional Sunday stroll for two centuries, it continues to serve as a venue for trade fairs, exhibitions and trade, recreational and public events.
