Pha That Luang stupa in Vientane, Laos

The iconic symbol of the Laoatian capital - and indeed, of the entire country - this huge golden Buddhist stupa (actually covered in gold!) was first built in 1566 when the royal capital was moved to Vientane from Luang Prabang, and has gone through periodica reconstructions since.
