Inaugurated by Giovanni Francesco Lucchini in 1791, the theatre was rebuilt after a major fire, in collaboration with Marcellino Segre. In 1897, with the monument of Jerace in the small square off to the side, the new facade by Pietro Via was created just a few years after the ceiling was completed, adorned with frescoes by Francesco Domeneghini. The most recent work performed on the theatre was by Pizzigoni and Galmozzi and Dell’Acqua.
