This two-story museum showcases the rich archaeology and history of Nubia, an early African cradle of civilization, from the Paleolithic through the ascension of Islam beginning in the mid-7th century, as well as the Greek Orthodox/Coptic Christian kingdom of Makuria, which lasted from the mid-7th to late 15th century. This is the Buhen Temple, moved here after being saved from the creation of Lake Nasser in the 1960s; these paintings date from the reign of Queen Hatshepsut in the mid-15th century BCE.
