Exploring the Amazon from Manaus, Brazil

The main reason most visitors come to Manaus is to use it as a base for exploring a corner of this massive rainforest. Covering 80 percent of Brazil, it’s home to an staggering array of flora and fauna – with 1,000 species of fish alone. The city is home to numerous outfitters which offer excursions, cruises along the nearby sections of the Amazon River (the world’s longest, and 6,400 kilometres/4,000 miles), and jungle lodge stays of varying lengths and degrees of luxury and cost.
