“SIP FOR THE SEA”

A Tasting of Sustainable Wine and Food to Benefit the New York Aquarium

The Wildlife Conservation Society hosts the fourth annual SIP FOR THE SEA benefit to support the New York Aquarium in Brooklyn and showcase WCS’s commitment to marine education and conservation.

6:30 – 9:30 PM.  6:30 PM – Grand Taster admission.  7:30 PM – General admission.  Central Park Zoo.  Fifth Ave at 64th St.

The dramatic transformation of the New York Aquarium is well underway. The centerpiece, a dazzling new building called Ocean Wonders: Sharks! has already begun to resemble the architectural marvel it will become. We have already erected the highest point of the structure, where visitors will find the best view in all of Coney Island.

Few New Yorkers are aware that the waters surrounding this city make up one of the world’s most diverse and vibrant marine environments. The New York Aquarium’s Ocean Wonders: Sharks! exhibit will introduce the city to some of its most remarkable residents, inspiring visitors to help us protect the waters that are so crucial to wildlife and humans alike.

SIP FOR THE SEA, a signature benefit for the Aquarium, is a festive evening featuring pairings of sustainable wines with sustainable seafood and other special offerings from some of New York’s and Brooklyn’s top restaurants. This evening will provide an occasion to celebrate the wonders of the ocean and support the Aquarium as it rebuilds and transforms the exhibits and Brooklyn Coney Island campus into a premier destination.

The Thomas Moran Trust Announces a Midsummer Cocktail Party To Benefit the Thomas Moran

Studio. Final Phases of Restoration Celebrated by East End Artistic Luminaries

The Thomas Moran Trust has announced its Midsummer Cocktail Party, to be held on July 29th on the historical grounds of the Thomas Moran and Mary Nimmo Moran Studio on Main Street in East Hampton Village.  The benefit party will celebrate the final phases of this sensitive restoration project and offer the public a sneak-peek of the interior, as well as access to the outbuildings and grounds.  6 pm - 8 pm.

A community of artistic luminaries has rallied to lend their support, bridging the legacy of the Morans with the contemporary East End art community. Benefit Committee members include: Cindy Sherman, Larry Gagosian, Kim Cattrall, Eric Fischl, April Gornik, Nicole Miller, Edwina von Gal, Ralph Gibson, Mary Jane Marcasiano, and Neda Young — among others.

All proceeds from the Cocktail Party will go toward the completion of the restoration. Tickets for the Midsummer Benefit Cocktail Party start at $250 and can be bought online at www.thomasmorantrust.org or by calling the office of the Thomas Moran Trust at 631-324-0100.

About The Studio of Thomas and Mary Nimmo Moran

In 1885, the great American landscape painter Thomas Moran and his wife, Mary Nimmo Moran, a celebrated printmaker, and their children moved into their new studio and house that Moran himself designed on East Hampton’s historical Main Street. The Studio, as it has been known since the Moran family first occupied it, comprises Thomas Moran’s studio and the rooms they lived in, as well as the gardens and outbuildings. The Moran Studio was the first artist’s studio built in East Hampton and it played a significant role in American art history. In its heyday The Studio was a lively center of the turn-of-the-19th-century art colony. In 1965, the Thomas Moran Studio became one of the first National Historic Landmarks in America — the highest recognition accorded by the Department of the Interior to the nation’s most historically significant properties.

About The Thomas Moran Trust

The Thomas Moran Trust is a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring the Moran Studio, gardens, and its four historically important outbuildings. In partnership with the National Park Service, the Town and the Village of East Hampton, as well as private, foundation, and corporate donors, this National Landmark will once again become a keystone of America’s artistic and cultural heritage.  Restoration on the property began in the fall of 2012, and it is scheduled to open to the public in the summer of 2017 as an educational arts center

Contributions to the Campaign for the Restoration of the Moran Studio are gratefully welcomed. More information about the restoration project can be found at www.thomasmorantrust.org.
