9 of the top musts of Minnesota

Sean Pavone The “Land of 10,000 Lakes” and I go way back, as one of my earliest travel memories, in the 1970s, though my family only visited Minneapolis and the also appealing city of St. Cloud, about an hour north. And of course one of my favorite TV shows when I was a kid, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, was set in Minneapolis. And while Minnesota ranks somewhere around the middle of U.S. states in terms of tourism popularity, it does boast one of the country´s top draws – the Mall of the…

5 of New Hampshire´s best ski/winter resorts

storylanding The Granite State is blessed with more than 20 great winter resorts, most of them in the White Mountains in the north center of the state, around a two-hour drive from capital Manchester and 2½ hours from Boston, and most of them are just as enjoyable to visit for nature and adventure activities the rest of the year when the snow is gone. So to give you a flavor of what winter fun New Hampshire style is like, here´s my pick of the top half dozen (all in the White Mountains…

  • Usually "medical tourists" come from places like the U.S. and go elsewhere for cheaper but good-quality care and procedures, but this is a depressing reverse twist: rich medical tourists coming to the States for organ transplants - and being allowed to jump ahead of U.S. residents because they´re so lucrative for hospitals. Outrageous but of course hardly surprising, given this country´s relentless push for profits before people https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/16/us/organ-transplants-internation...
  • Well, the current U.S. régime (well, more specifically the evil clown at its top) continues to cost U.S. tourism big, as millions of potential visitors (especially Canadiana and Chinese) continue to cancel travel. This article is from several weeks ago but the trends it describes continue: https://skift.com/2025/11/12/canadians-cut-u-s-trips-as-travel-to-c...

Canadians are still skipping trips to the U.S. in large numbers, according to data released Wednesday by Statistics Canada.
  • There are more than a few of the "usual suspects" on this list, but some lesser known destinations get their due as well - and there even several downright surprises: https://www.cntraveler.com/story/best-places-to-go-in-the-us-in-2026

  • Frankly, I´m surprised the projected drop is only 5% or so - I bet anything it´ll end up being a lot more. The attacks on Canada and Greenland (part of NATO ally Denmark), the rough detentions of Germans and Canadians at the border - beyond just being insulting, word getting out about how badly foreigners from even allied countries are being treated here, and the travel boycott is going to snowball. And rightly so https://fortune.com/2025/03/17/foreign-tourism-us-forecast-trump-ta...

  • Travel+Leisure has just gifted us with a bevy of romantic destinations in the USA for the fall. I´ve been to several of these, but never thought of them as necessarily ¨romantic,¨ but I can certainly see it. https://www.travelandleisure.com/trip-ideas/fall-vacations/most-rom...
  • Wow, now friendly Canada has issued an official warning to its LGBTQ folks re travel to the USA. Fox ¨News¨ and its ilk are slamming it as misdirected when there are so many worse places where gays and lesbians are actually killed. But thanks to all the current homophobic jihads in Repub-ruled states, it´s leading to real-life violence in the US too, like the recent killing of the straight shop owner in California for flying the Pride flag. Even before this, years ago, there have been gay club shootings like at Pulse in Orlando, and now they will inevitably become more common. So yeah. danger for real. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/aug/31/canada-travel-warning...
