One of the city´s main squares, and its most world-famous, thanks to the 2013-2014 "Euromaidan" protests which ended up deposing Ukraine´s then corrupt, pro-Russian régime, the Maidan Nezalezhnosti. Notable structures include the 1991 Independence Monument, a monument to the founders of Kyiv, the Hotel Ukraine, the Maidan Museum, the National Music Academy, the Central Post Office, and an underground shopping mall.
