Europeans have been flocking to these Mediterranean beaches for years. But other cool stuff to do in this French- and Arabic-speaking country - the smallest in North Africa - includes exploring the edge of the Sahara Desert and ancient Roman and Punic ruins.

Tunisia cited in 'Using Astrology to Plan Travel this Holiday Season'

fshok.com Still vibrant and popular today, the five-thousand-year-old art of astrology can identify, say, business and romantic opportunities or challenges. And those celestial bodies slinking about the stars can also help pinpoint optimal times and places for travel. And since destinations have their own astro-charts -- which interact with yours -- astrology can even serve as a kind of spiritual travel agent. It can tell you, for example, about places likely to be harmonious or challenging…

Impressive beaches/culture in/around ancient Mahdia

North Africa's moderate Muslim country Tunisia has long been popular especially among Europeans for its warm, inviting beaches complemented with ancient sites such as Carthage as well as exotic architecture and culture. And though tourism in recent years has suffered because of extremism (including a notorious beach attack in 2015), things have calmed, stabilized, and been made safer, with extremism is also receding on the political front. That's good news, because some of Tunisia's…

Tunisia a delightfully exotic package

A compact country on North Africa's Mediterranean coast, Tunisia is perhaps best known these days for dreamy beaches and resorts popular with Europeans such asHammamet and Djerba. But there's also a fascinating wealth of history and culture here: desert oases such as Tozeur and Nefta; charming whitewashed towns like Sidi Bou Said; and ancient Roman and Carthaginian ruins (including those of mighty Carthage itself)... keep reading

  • I´m a big UNESCO World Heritage geek, and I see that on the list of 42 new sites for 2023 Tunisia added another one to its previous eight. This time it´s the island of Djerba for its medieval cultural and architectural heritage - which includes a significant contribution from its Jewish community: https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1640
Djerba: Testimony to a settlement pattern in an island territory

  • A somewhat upsetting article recently came out on MSN.com about threats to Tunisia's beautiful beaches: https://www.msn.com/en-in/lifestyle/travel/why-tunisia-s-sandy-beac...
  • Headed by London-based writer photographer Becky Moore, GlobalGrasshopper.com specializes in independent, often off-the-beaten-path travel, and a while back another of the site's contributors, Scott Balaam, came up with a bunch of very alluring spots in Tunisia beyond the usual beach resorts and Carthage: https://globalgrasshopper.com/destinations/africa/10-beautiful-plac...
  • It's not too far from where I live in Spain, but I haven't yet gotten to Tunisia, and one place I've always dreamed of visiting is the ruins of ancient Carthage. I'm thinking of going this year, and in researching Carthage I came across this video from a YouTube channel - out of Romania, of all places - which covers various destinations and here does a good job of showing both the ruins and their history/context. Highly recommended! https://youtu.be/JLFLs_qPrJE

  • "(BTW, Arabic is Morocco's main language, but French is widely spoken, so don't forget to check out our French Language/Culture Club!)". It is indeed, but isn't this a group about Tunisia? ;-)
