Trinidad has been a violent place for quite a few years now (I look down at the comments below and see one from way back in 2009 about it overtaking Jamaica as the Caribbean´s "murder capital." But the recent surge in gang violence and declaration of a state of emergency takes it to a whole other level - even though the tourism people are trying to downplay it. Just recently the Times of London came out with a great overview of T&T. (And btw I checked elsewhere and it seems the country is rated pretty ok for gay travelers, and same-sex relations were legalized in 2018)
