Read of the Week 10/1-7/2012: Australia Bushwalking

Australia Bushwalking, an app by Tripatini member Melanie Ball

The best way to get a feel for Australia is through the soles of your feet.

Step out on more than 90 bushwalks from short to epic and desert to sea with this inspirational and evocative App.

Climb Australia’s highest mountain. Follow in the footsteps of a 19th century explorer. Circumnavigate Uluru. Stand on precipitous sea cliffs. Walk independently and join accommodated gourmet tours that leave the heavy bags to others.

Designed to help you choose a walk from the comfort of an armchair (THIS IS NOT A TRAIL GUIDE), this App has over 150 entries and 1000-odd images describing and illustrating each walk's terrain and the wildlife you may encounter.

What will you get? First-hand experience from a passionate bushwalker and links to sources for maps and detailed trail notes.

Entries on footwear, safety and technology draw on the expertise of authorities and a famous adventurer!

Entries on wildflowers and fungi will have you looking as much at the ground as at the scenery.

Walks are graded and sorted by a range of tags including State/Territory, dominant themes (Geological, Historical etc) and Length (2-Hour, Half Day and Full Day).

Fancy a leg-stretch in Australia? This app is for you!
