The palace has similar to our called Comenda Palace which belonged to Armand family (french family that lived in Portugal) were friends of the Kennedy family and upon the death of the former USA president, his widow Jacqueline Kennedy stayed at the palace with her children.

Built extremely close to the edge of the tall cliffs stands the Santuário de Nossa Senhora do Cabo (Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Cape), a late 17th-century church and on either side of the church a long line of pilgrims’ lodgings facing inwards form an open courtyard. These site become a popular place of pilgrimage in the 13th-century when a local man had a vision of the Madonna rising from the sea on a mule. Legend has it that the tracks of the mule can be seen embedded in the rocks. Cape Espichel, in Portugal.
