Near the towns of Gatlinburg (whose Sugarlands VIsitor Center is one of two in the park), Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, and Townsend, and shared with North Carolina, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a gorgeous 816-square-mile expanse of rolling, forested hills. In addition to hiking; biking; fishing; camping; canoeing kayaking and tubing on the Pigeon River, and horseback riding, there are also plenty of historical sites dating back to the 19th-century frontier days.
