Tainan´s Fort Zeelandia (aka Anping Old Fort)

For 35 years in the 17th century, the Dutch East India Company ruled the western part of Formosa (as the island was known back then), and built this fort to suport its trade with Ming China and Tokugawa Japan as well as counter Spanish and Portuguese trading and other activities in East Asia.  Apart from the remains of the fort itself, there are exhibits areas showcasing the history of Tainan and the region, and a tower that provides panoramic views of the surrounding city.
