Canouan, SVG´s oasis of "barefoot luxury"

This three-square-mile island in the southern Grenadines, a half-hour flight from St. Vincent (as well as from Barbados), has become something of a byword for "barefoot luxury" - unpoiled nature and gorgeous beaches like Godhal married to five-star amenities. The typically charming village of Charlestown (pictured here) is the point of entry, and home to a multi-million-dollar marina where megayachts are a common sight. A good swath of the northern part of the island - gated off - is owned and managed by the Canouan Resort Development Company and is home to an small exclusive Mandarin Oriental, while down south is the Sandy Lane Yacht Club and Residences, including three restaurants open to the general public. Then of course there are various and sundry villas, from merely luxe to sumptuous oases where, some wags have put it "billionaires go to get away from millionaires."
