My favorite monument in Asturias and one of my favorites in Spain, this mid-9th-century structure was built on Naranco hill just above Oviedo as a "recreational" royal palace, was later used as a church, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its solid simplicity appeals to me, and I visit every time I´m in town.
