From a tiny town on an arid plateau, over the centuries Spain's capital grew into imperial grandeur, and today has plenty of historic sites, stunning museums, abundant culture, and atmospheric traditional restaurants to enjoy, overlaid by a fun urban vibe that in many ways is among the world's most cutting edge. Whether it's the old or the new -- the funky fashions, "molecular" gastronomy or the kick-ass, stay-up-all-night club scene -- Madrid will ring your bells in any way you can name. Hi am heading to Madrid in April and wonder if anyone knows of a (1) gay hotel that would offer a discount to writers (I can mention them in my article) and/or (2) a straight hotel that would offer a press rate to writers. One of us is gay and one of us is straight (and yes, we are good friends)
Also, any idea of what to see/do while there. Is it worth getting a bus tour (and who does that) or a book of attraction passes.
Thanks so much!

Hi, Sheila!
I'm a bit late with this, but I'll reply anyway, for the benefit of others who may wish to know.
Open-top bus tours are operated by a firm called 'Madrid Vision', who operate two tours, both of which are well worth the price (and I think your ticket is good for both???)
As to what to see/do ... I'd recommend the Retiro Park, the Teleferico cable car to the Casa de Campo, the Rosalede rose garden (in season) and the Templo de Debod, an Egyptian temple rescued from the rising waters of Lake Nasser, and donated to the Spanish people.
